According to foreign media reports, during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping events that began on November 17 and lasted until November 27 , consumers ordered more than 500 million items from third-party sellers on Amazon .
Amazon says most third-party sellers are small and medium-sized businesses.
Like eBay, Amazon boasted that it sold more refurbished items during the sale than ever before — "Customers bought more used products on Amazon than in any previous Black Friday Cyber Monday holiday shopping event. "
eBay CEO Jamie Iannone said that during this year's Thanksgiving weekend, the platform saw a significant increase in sales of refurbished items and vintage fashion .
While promising low prices makes sense from a public relations perspective, Amazon has even more reason to hype low prices because it is facing a lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission, which accuses Amazon of "using its monopoly power to raise prices."
So it's no surprise that Amazon emphasized its low-price strategy in its post-holiday shopping event announcement .
In fact, Amazon published another post on Thursday explaining how its " shopping cart " feature ensures low prices , writing, "Amazon's goal is to ensure customers have the best shopping experience by offering the lowest prices across our vast product selection ."
Amazon also said this year marks the first time Prime members can purchase products directly from Buy with Prime merchants during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping events .
Amazon officially wrote : "Compared to the average daily purchase volume in October 2023, merchants participating in the promotion increased their total sales through the Buy with Prime channel by more than 300%." Black Friday Net One Amazon |
