Title: Beware of scams! eBay Germany suspends RatePay payment method

Introduction: At the end of the year, various shopping promotions have created many opportunities for scammers to take advantage.

RatePay is one of the most popular online payment methods used by German consumers. For German shoppers who want to pay for goods via direct debit rather than credit card or PayPal, RatePay is the best choice.

However, according to foreign media reports, eBay Germany announced that it would temporarily cancel the RatePay direct payment option because there were some unauthorized purchases and payment requests through RatePay .

This means that if consumers are not careful, they may be at risk of fraud, financial theft, and personal information leakage.

RatePay said it had no issues with direct debit payments. In theory, the unauthorised payment requests could be the result of identity theft and an unknown third party improperly using data about customers to place orders on eBay.

eBay said it is working with RatePay to resolve the issue. To prevent more consumers and sellers from suffering losses, the RatePay direct debit system will not be provided as a payment option for the time being.

Currently, eBay users in Germany can still use   PayPal, credit card, some debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Sofortüberweisung from Klarna .

However, the holiday shopping season at the end of the year has already begun. 16% of German consumers choose to shop on Black Friday to prepare for Christmas and New Year gifts. Another 17% of consumers said they would increase spending on related gifts. RatePay, as a payment method that is more popular among consumers, may cause inconvenience to consumers when paying for orders.

At the end of the year, various shopping promotions have created many opportunities for scammers to take advantage of. According to relevant data, more than 170 fraud incidents occurred on eBay between September 1 and November 2.

In addition to shopping websites, social networking sites are also one of the most frequent "bases" for scammers during the peak shopping season . Social networking sites that have emerged in recent years, such as Facebook and Instagram, are the easiest targets for scammers.

Therefore, at the end of the year, sellers should not only pay attention to the security of their own stores, but also remind consumers not to enter personal information anywhere other than the official website to avoid being deceived.
