Nearly 1/3 of Americans are looking forward to the Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping sprees

Strong growth in back-to-school and Halloween sales earlier in this year's peak shopping season has fueled optimism among online and offline retailers about the holiday shopping season, which kicks off this week with Black Friday .

According to an NPD survey , more than one-third of American consumers ( 36%) hope to be able to "visit" retail store shelves this year ; 30% of consumers look forward to shopping in malls again ; and another 30% of consumers are looking forward to the shopping sprees on Thanksgiving and Black Friday ; 21% of respondents hope to be able to see creative holiday displays, windows and decorations ; and 15% of respondents hope to take a photo with Santa Claus.

Although consumers are concerned about shortages, the survey shows that if the size, color, or style they like happens to be out of stock , they will not give up buying it, but will continue to look for the next most needed item. And the shortage of offline shopping will also force consumers to turn to online shopping.

The Port of Los Angeles reported last week that there are signs of easing congestion in the U.S. supply chain, with the number of containers staying at the port for nine days or more falling by 35%.

The National Retail Federation expects holiday sales to grow 8.5% to 10.5% , according to data from the National Retail Federation . The steady , gradual growth of e-commerce was dramatically accelerated by the outbreak last year, even causing the value of online shopping activity to surpass that of physical stores.

Currently , as vaccination rates rise, more stores and malls begin to open, and consumers are looking to return to pre-pandemic holiday shopping activities, physical stores are gradually gaining a share of retail sales close to pre -pandemic levels. However, online sales continue to grow, and e-commerce market share is still gradually increasing.

Earlier, eMarketer has predicted that during the five-day promotion period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, sales on each promotional day will exceed US$5 billion. In addition, the big promotion has ignited the consumption enthusiasm of the American people. It is expected that this year's Black Friday Cyber Monday sales will reach a new height.
