In the past two years, with the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry, more and more sellers have begun to flock to this industry to get a piece of the pie. For these new sellers, there are all kinds of pitfalls that they can't guard against. Recently, a Shenzhen generation operation company pretended to be the official Newegg to attract investment and defrauded sellers of tens of millions of yuan, which caused a sensation in the cross-border circle.
As early as last year, some sellers were invited to participate in the "Transnational Stores Taking Root in North America - Newegg Technology Category Investment Promotion Conference". A person who claimed to be the "President" of Newegg introduced the agency operation project to the participating sellers and promised that "the minimum sales of US$50,000 will be achieved within one year from the listing of the product. If the annual sales of US$50,000 are not reached, the corresponding basic service fee will be refunded according to the proportion of the unmet goal."
Out of trust in the big platform, the sellers on site paid signing fees ranging from 3,000 to 59,000 yuan. When signing the contract, they found out that the project was not operated by Newegg, but by a Shenzhen-based operation company. When the contract expired, the sales of many sellers' stores were only a few hundred dollars, and many even had zero sales, and the operation company did not refund the money as promised. According to statistics, the service fees that have not been refunded are as high as more than 10 million yuan.
After noticing the incident, Newegg's official response came. The statement is as follows: Newegg's official website also posted a statement in the most prominent position of the website, saying that it had recently received reports that someone had impersonated Newegg and charged fees arbitrarily, which had caused adverse effects. Newegg attached great importance to this and reminded the public to identify the only official website of Newegg. Looking back at this incident, most of the sellers who fell into the trap were owners of traditional foreign trade factories. For them, the biggest advantage is concentrated on the product side, and they generally lack professional e-commerce operation teams. In this case, there is nothing wrong with the agency operation model itself, and both sellers and agency operation companies can profit from it. However, with the popularity of the cross-border e-commerce industry, the demand for the agency operation model has skyrocketed, and some lawless elements have begun to profit from it by various means.
The editor would like to remind you: whether you are a new seller who has just entered the cross-border e-commerce industry, or an old seller who has been working hard for many years, you must keep your eyes open when signing a business contract to guard against being deceived. Newegg statement |
