Amazon releases new tool to help third-party sellers identify hot products!

According to foreign media reports, on October 20th local time , Amazon released Product Opportunity Explorer , a new tool - Product Opportunity Explorer , at the Accelerate 2021 conference for third-party sellers .

It is understood that this new tool helps sellers understand information about customers' product searches and rich insights into whether they click to buy or not , by providing detailed data such as customer search volume , growth , sales history and pricing trends about the products they purchase . This helps sellers determine which products to launch next and enables sellers to identify profit opportunities for emerging products so that sellers can take action based on customer needs .

But some people are inevitably asking questions about this new tool : Where does the data for the tool come from, how detailed is the data, and whether other sellers’ suggestions to Amazon might lead companies to steal existing products?

In response to such questions, an Amazon spokesperson said in an interview that the tool will provide sellers with aggregated data but will not reveal the specific performance of other brands. Instead, the company said the tool will provide suggestions for products that customers may be searching for but have not found .

For example, if a company sells bicycles on Amazon and a young girl needs a blue bicycle, the tool might suggest that they try buying it .

The EU has accused Amazon of "systematically" using market data that is not available to others , but Amazon has denied that it abuses its dual role as a product developer and marketplace provider . The European Commission has not yet published a report or findings on the allegations, and Amazon has refuted the accusation.

Of course, some people also think that if everyone has access to the same data or similar recommendations, will it start a more algorithm-driven arms race among sellers ? If the data predicts that a product will do well, but it ends up being a complete failure, will Amazon risk damaging its relationship with sellers ?

However, Amazon said it may address these issues before they become real problems . It will test Product Opportunity Explorer in beta first , then plans to make it available to all sellers in 2022 and will make it free to use in Seller Central, an online business management resource .
