Consumers’ peak season shopping trends are out, with Black Friday being the most popular!

As the 2021 shopping season approaches , AfterPay Insights surveyed consumers in four European countries : the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom, and gained in-depth insights into e-commerce sales forecasts during the peak season and how consumers plan to shop.

AfterPay Insights believes that the current severe global epidemic situation will not have much impact on consumers' shopping behavior. The survey results show that only 30-35% of consumers are worried that the development of the epidemic will affect their shopping. With the rapid development of e-commerce, more and more consumers are beginning to shift their purchases from physical stores to online channels.

According to AfterPay Insights , convenience remains the main driver of online shopping . Consumers believe that online stores can be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and that the selection of online products is larger. At the same time, better product prices and more interesting and attractive shopping experiences are also key to attracting consumers to shop through online channels.

In addition, "social phobia" is also an important reason for consumers to turn to online shopping . Many consumers in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom believe that a large part of the reason for choosing online shopping is that they prefer to stay at home and try to avoid physical contact with others . Living far away from offline stores is also a reason for consumers to choose online shopping .

According to AfterPay Insights , Black Friday is the most popular shopping festival among the series of shopping festivals that will follow in the second half of the year . 32-41 % of consumers in Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom said they will start shopping on Black Friday . In comparison , the proportion of Dutch consumers planning to shop on Black Friday is lower, at only 26 %. In terms of shopping volume, Black Friday is still the largest sales event in these countries.

Overall, the overall outlook for the 2021 shopping season is promising. Consumers are more inclined to choose products with strong availability and favorable prices, and a good shopping experience is also an important factor in attracting consumers to shop. Sellers can work harder in these aspects to provide consumers with more cost-effective products that meet their needs.
