Sellers must be careful when creating listings. If they are not careful, they will fall into traps and their products may even be removed from the shelves. Recently, the e-commerce platform Wayfair was pushed to the forefront because of problematic product images.
One user posted a screenshot of some Wayfair products on Twitter , showing a coffee table with a decorative bowl and a white-gray book with "WHITE SUPREMACY" written on the side.
In the second image, the book's cover is visible. The cover is similar to the cover of the 2011 book "White Supremacy: Racism, Governance, and America."
This racist product image sparked outrage among Twitter users, who said the designer could be fired and @Wayfair demanded an explanation.
Wayfair also responded to this matter . A Wayfair spokesperson said that when it became aware of the problem, Wayfair took immediate action to remove the product from the website and said it was communicating with the supplier about the matter.
In addition to Wayfair, other e-commerce platforms also often have such problems, such as Amazon. In September last year, a lawyer also tweeted that a seller on Amazon was selling baseball caps with the words "Black Lives Don't Matter". This also caused strong dissatisfaction among netizens. For this reason, Amazon also removed the product from the shelves.
In its policy for "offensive and controversial items," Amazon says it does not tolerate any products that promote, incite, or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual, or religious bigotry, or institutional merchants that hold such views. When sellers violate this policy, it will take action, including immediate cease and desist orders, destruction of inventory, and termination of the business relationship with the seller.
When interpreting this policy, many people may think that everything will be fine as long as product images and introduction information do not contain these sensitive words or sensitive elements, but the fact is that many products that they think have not crossed the red line will also be warned.
At the end of last year, products from Chinese sellers were removed from the shelves because their descriptions contained racist tendencies.
It is reported that this is a children's doll product. The description reads: 14-inch cute black doll; with a casual red skirt and colorful dreadlocks; carefully designed collection box...
At first glance, it seems to be fine, but by comparing it with other similar products, you will find that the description in the title is too detailed, and words such as "black doll" and "colored dreadlocks" may make people feel that it has racist connotations.
Therefore, when creating listings, in addition to paying attention to sensitive words and elements, sellers should also pay more attention to whether the overall description gives people a biased feeling. Sensitive Content Removed |
