Affected by the epidemic, more and more consumers choose to shop online. As one of the most famous retailers in France, Fnac's online sales business has also ushered in rapid development with this momentum.
Recently, Fnac announced its first half results for 2021. Fnac Group's revenue in the first half of 2021 was 3.465 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 21.3%. Thanks to the addition of 2 million active online consumers during the same period, Fnac's online sales business continued to grow, accounting for nearly 28% of the group's sales.
Currently, Fnac has multiple sites in Europe. In the financial report released by Fnac, the sales in the Iberian Peninsula increased the most, up to 39.6%, and sales in France, Switzerland and Belgium also achieved good growth. Sales of almost all categories of products have increased to a certain extent, among which books, games, TV and other categories have the most outstanding growth rate.
The development of the Fnac Group in 2021 has not been smooth sailing. Although the epidemic has brought certain opportunities for online sales, the epidemic control measures issued by European countries have also affected Fnac's business development to a certain extent.
For example, during the multiple national lockdowns in France, many offline stores of the Fnac Group were forced to close. In Switzerland, offline stores were closed for a month and a half starting from January 18. Regional lockdowns were also implemented in the Iberian Peninsula to control the flow of people, and some stores imposed shopping time limits, resulting in the closure of some offline stores of the Fnac Group. Under such circumstances, Fnac achieved a significant increase in sales in the first half of the year, which further confirmed the importance of the group's implementation of an omni-channel sales model.
Fnac Darty CEO Enrique Martínez is also very satisfied with the solid performance achieved in the first half of 2021. He said: "In a still uncertain market environment, the Fnac Group is demonstrating its capabilities and has returned to profitability in the first half of the year, which gives us the confidence to meet future challenges and achieve our goals. In the second half of the year, we will continue to work hard to focus on the sustainable development of the group and improve our service level."
At present, Fnac's e-commerce business still accounts for a relatively small proportion of the group's revenue. Under the omni-channel sales model, Fnac's e-commerce business will continue to develop steadily in the future. For Chinese sellers, it may be a relatively friendly blue ocean platform.
