Amazon urgently removes three products

On July 14, according to foreign media reports, Amazon has recently been widely criticized for its inability to adequately monitor product lists , resulting in many products that should have been banned appearing on product pages. Just today, Amazon also urgently removed three T- shirts that promote extreme right and white racism .

The two T- shirts with the words "Groyper" and "Groyper Army" that were removed from the shelves had product descriptions that read: "GROYPERS unite!" and " We want true conservatism, this is the Groyper War!!" Both products were sold and shipped directly by Amazon .

According to How-to-Geek, this means the items appear to belong to Amazon rather than an independent third-party business .

However , in the "Offensive Product Guidelines" statement, Amazon clearly stated: Amazon does not allow products that promote, incite or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual or religious intolerance, nor does it allow the promotion of organizations with such views.

In addition to the media, many netizens also strongly condemned Amazon's behavior, and some Twitter users even cursed at it.

It is reported that Groyper is a derivative of Pepe the Frog . It looks like a frog, with a big silly smile and crossed hands as its iconic image, but it is a common image used to promote extreme right and white racism, and is very popular in extreme right circles . Therefore, as early as 2016, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) designated it as an evil symbol that provokes hatred.

Currently, Amazon has urgently removed the three T- shirts from its shelves, but has not yet responded to Best Life's question about whether they were sold directly by Amazon. Other products with Groyper elements are still sold on the Amazon platform.

If we search for Groyper on the Amazon front page , we can still see two children's books printed with Groyper on sale .

Considering Amazon’s recent actions, first it allowed the sale of T- shirts that spoofed the map of China , then put books on the coronavirus conspiracy theory on the shelves, and now it is selling products that incite racial hatred. It also exposed 13 million direct message records of using fake reviews in exchange for free products . I hope Amazon will strengthen monitoring to avoid losing the trust of consumers.
