Survey shows: 45% of Indian households may buy home office products in the next three months

According to a survey by social media platform LocalCircles, two-thirds of people believe that once an area is unsealed , all items should be allowed to be delivered to homes and retail stores should shorten their opening hours.

66% of households believe that contactless home delivery will be the primary factor influencing their purchasing patterns in the next three months. As the virus spreads rapidly in India, many families and social patterns have been affected, and many consumers have chosen to stay indoors consciously, not only in big cities, but also in first-, second- and third-tier towns.

LocalCircles added that to purchase household necessities , people would order through e-commerce apps , websites , etc.

The survey received more than 40,000 responses from residents in 303 regions of India, of which 65% of the respondents were male and 35% were female. According to the survey, 51% of households are likely to buy children's products such as books, stationery, clothing, and online classroom equipment in the next three months.

LocalCircles said that in the past 45-60 days, they have been receiving emails from consumers asking if they need to buy children-related items such as books, stationery , extracurricular activities , hobbies, etc. to keep their children at home.

The survey found that after being hit by the second wave of the epidemic, people chose to start home isolation again. In this case, 45% of households may buy electronic products for working from home in the next three months, including mobile phones, laptops, home appliances, household items, etc.

Now that cases are falling in most states and the government is considering a phased approach to easing lockdowns, two-thirds of people believe that once an area is released from lockdown , all items should be allowed to be delivered to homes and retail stores should have shorter opening hours.

In addition to the above-mentioned opinion survey, LocalCircles also conducted a survey on the reopening of retail and local businesses and markets . The main suggestion of consumers here is that as a first step, state governments and district administrations must consider opening stores for home delivery only, and if the number of cases continues to decline, open stores to provide door-to-door service to consumers during reduced working hours. Consumers said that if the number of new daily cases continues to remain low or declining within 2 weeks , full opening of retail stores and markets can be considered.
