According to the retail report released by the UK National Statistics Office , excluding automobile fuel , the total retail sales in the UK in April increased by 37.9% compared with the same period last year, and the number of goods purchased increased by 37.7% , which was 9.1% and 9% respectively compared with March this year . Moreover, compared with the consumption level before the epidemic, in April this year, the amount of consumption and the number of purchases by British people increased by 9.9% and 10.6% respectively.
The report also pointed out that in April this year, online retail sales in the UK accounted for 30% of total retail sales, down from 34.7% in March . In addition , online sales in April fell 5.6% compared with March , but increased 31.9% compared with the same period last year .
In April this year , the total non-food consumption of the British people increased by 25.4% compared with March 2021. Among them, online sales fell by 9.8% from the previous month , but increased by 37.2% compared with the same period last year .
In the field of online food retail, since the lockdown was lifted on April 12 , some shopping malls in the UK have resumed business, which has promoted the recovery of the consumer market. Food e-commerce sales fell 11.4% from the previous month , but increased 16.5% from April last year .
Secondly, spending in clothing, footwear and textiles also increased by 69.4% . In the clothing, footwear and textiles category, almost a third ( 30%) of transactions were conducted online. Compared with March, online sales in this category decreased by 6.3% , but increased by 83.6% compared with the same period last year.
Spending on household goods also increased by 10.2% . The report showed that 30.8% of household goods sales were conducted online, down 7.1% from the previous month and up 27.4% from the same period last year .
In addition, because of the epidemic, people have shifted the consumption of entertainment products from offline to online. About 81.9% of sales are traded online .
