The global app download rankings are out, with Shopee surpassing Amazon to rank first

Recently, according to foreign media reports, although Amazon has always been a leader in the US e-commerce industry, according to the latest global app installation rankings, the new international brand Shopee is very likely to subvert the dominance of this online shopping giant.

According to the latest survey data from Apptopia, the tech giant ranked fourth in the world in terms of shopping app installations in 2021. Currently, there are three major e-commerce companies that have surpassed Amazon in the global app download rankings:

1. Shopee, headquartered in Singapore, serves Southeast Asia and Latin America

2. Shein, a leader in fast fashion based in China

3. Meesho, based in India, specializes in social e-commerce in categories such as fashion and home products

It is worth noting that according to Apptopia’s survey data last year, Amazon ranked first in global app downloads in 2020, followed by: Walamart, Wish, Shop, Offerup, eBay, SHEIN, Target, Wayfrit, and Nike.

In facing regulators in the United States and elsewhere, Amazon executives have repeatedly said the company’s small share of the global retail market, including online and offline sales, does not warrant monopolistic behavior that affects the market.

However, as of a few months ago, Amazon was expected to account for more than 40% of U.S. e-commerce sales by 2021, according to eMarketer.

According to eMarketer, Amazon will account for 41.4% of all retail e-commerce sales in the United States by 2021. The e-commerce giant will contribute more than 50% of the growth in online sales in the United States from 2019 to 2021. eMarketer estimates that Amazon's e-commerce sales will increase by $168.53 billion during this period, reaching a staggering $386.4 billion by the end of this year.

In recent years, Shopee has developed rapidly, and has successively opened up the markets of Poland, Spain, and France, trying to develop into a global e-commerce company. According to the data provided by Shopee. In just one month, Shopee's performance in Spain has surpassed global e-commerce platforms such as Shein, Amazon, and AliExpress. In Poland, Shopee has also defeated local e-commerce platforms such as Allegro.

Perhaps, Amazon's monopoly will no longer exist, and cross-border e-commerce is entering an era of diversified development.
