Amazon is shutting down its two-hour delivery app Prime Now

Amazon announced on Friday that it will shut down the standalone Prime Now app by the end of this year and move the feature to the Amazon app and website.

It is reported that Amazon Prime Now was officially launched in 2014, featuring a 2-hour free door-to-door delivery service . Prime members who subscribe to this service only need to pay a small fee to enjoy a two-hour free door-to-door delivery service covering books, toys, daily necessities and other commodities . Data shows that the service was initially only available in a few cities , and has now expanded to more than 5,000 locations around the world.

In a blog post published by Stephenie Landry, vice president of Amazon Fresh and Prime Now, it was mentioned that Prime Now is loved by customers . In order to create a better shopping experience for customers and continue to practice the purpose of serving customers, Amazon plans to transfer Prime Now from a separate application to the Amazon APP and website, making it convenient for buyers to shop in one stop.

Consumers will then be able to choose to have necessities and other goods delivered within two hours on the Amazon app and website .

In addition, after the Prime Now app is shut down , the " fast delivery service " will be undertaken by Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods , and the third-party retailers or local stores that originally provided services on the Prime Now app will be transferred to the Amazon main site , including Seattle-based pharmacy chain Bartell Drugs and New York City's Union Square Wines & Spirits. Therefore, merchants and customers who wish to continue using Prime Now can click on this feature on the Amazon website or app .

Currently, the standalone Prime Now app has been phased out in India , Japan, and Singapore , and the functionality has been moved to the main Amazon platform.

Industry insiders commented that after shutting down Prime Now, on the one hand, users and merchants can conduct transactions more concentratedly on the Amazon main site, increasing activity; on the other hand, by transferring this function to the Amazon main site, relying on Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market to provide consumers with a two-hour grocery delivery service , Amazon's fast delivery capabilities will be further improved .
