Counterfeit and shoddy goods are the biggest "trap" that customers face on online shopping platforms . A consumer in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, said he bought a pair of trousers for 350,000 VND on a popular e-commerce website , but after receiving the product, he found that it was a fake. On most e-commerce platforms, sportswear brands are priced at around VND100,000 ($4), which is 5 to 10 times cheaper than products sold in official stores , and these are all fakes . Data shows that 46% of Vietnamese e-commerce users believe that consumer deception, inferior goods and counterfeit goods are the main factors leading to dissatisfaction. According to statistics, in the first nine months of 2020, market management agencies received more than 2,400 cases, handled more than 2,200 violations, and imposed fines of more than VND16 billion for violations on e-commerce websites. The total value of smuggled counterfeit goods , goods of unknown origin, and infringing goods sold through e-commerce was about VND41 billion (nearly US$2 million). By March 2020, 463,865 online stores and nearly 1.8 million products had been inspected , and fines had been imposed on about 5,200 stores and more than 21,000 products. On e-commerce platforms, the three categories of products with the most counterfeit goods are electronic products, clothing and beauty, and household items. In Vietnam, the harshest punishment an e-commerce platform can take for counterfeit products is to shut down a seller’s account. Tiki has pledged to compensate people who buy fake or substandard goods with 1.1 times the value of the goods . The report shows that 20.5% of customers said that the reason for online shopping is trust in the website, and 25.9% of consumers said that they choose it because of the short delivery time. But at the same time, the impact of product quality problems cannot be ignored. Therefore, combating counterfeiting is one of the most important issues in the development of e-commerce platforms. In the United States, the US government requires Amazon, Walmart and other platforms to take measures to ensure that the goods they sell are safe and legal. It is reported that Amazon has set up an anti-counterfeiting team. Vietnam E-commerce platform |
