More than 50,000 reviews were deleted, and Amazon is targeting cross-border sales

Recently, the incident of Amazon's screen-sweeping data leakage has caused a lot of controversy. The successive closure of many Chinese super-selling accounts has made a lot of sellers panic. There is also news that "Amazon may carry out a large-scale ban" that has spread like wildfire. This series of operations is suffocating.

A big seller's over 66,000 reviews turned into 14,000

The sudden sweep seems to have come to a conclusion. Marketplace data shows that Amazon has begun deleting product reviews of revoked brands. The number of reviews for one of the best-selling products in the industry has dropped from 66,000 to 14,000, which is equivalent to 52,000 reviews being deleted .

Unlike most Amazon discontinuations, the revoked brand had been around for years and was not an overnight hit, with products that consistently topped Amazon's charts for that product category.

In addition, since more than 90% of the online revenue of many cross-border sellers comes from Amazon , they will face great risks and uncertainties as long as there is any disturbance in Amazon.

This account suspension incident may be the best proof . Regarding this account suspension, some netizens said that it may not only be due to fake orders and control of reviews, but it is very likely that the seller violated the rules and hyped it up, by inserting small cards in the package and other methods to guide buyers to buy their products on their independent station platform , which violated Amazon's taboo.

At least 11 accounts in Greater China have been suspended

The latest data shows that at least 11 accounts originating from Greater China have been suspended, belonging to the same parent company with annual sales of more than one million US dollars. In addition, the two most successful brands in the US market can no longer be searched on Amazon.

The market share of Chinese merchants on Amazon is also increasing year by year, and now accounts for 75% of new sellers on Amazon , up from 47% a year ago. According to incomplete statistics, these suspended accounts have contributed more than $1 billion in total to Amazon's gross merchandise value .

As of now, Amazon has not commented on the status of the suspended account, but said in a statement that Amazon "has long-standing policies to protect the integrity of our store, including product authenticity, real reviews, and products that meet our expectations." This also shows Amazon's attitude.

Sellers please note that these methods are not available

In fact, this is not the first time that Amazon has shut down accounts for fake reviews and other violations of its rules, but the scale of this wave is unprecedented . Needless to say, Amazon needs Chinese suppliers to provide a wide variety of products at reasonable prices, and the average quality of these products has also improved significantly in recent years.

However, as competition among Chinese sellers intensifies, black hat tactics common in Chinese e-commerce have become necessary to survive on Amazon.

One method Chinese sellers often use is review manipulation , either by paying real buyers to leave positive reviews or by sending fake orders and leaving good reviews through zombie accounts to improve their products’ rankings on Amazon .

The second method is to entrust it to an agent claiming to be a "product review" service, which provides a set of resources to simulate a real account , such as IP proxy , virtual credit card , overseas address , and any identity information impersonation algorithm that can help avoid Amazon's suspicion.

The third method, which may pose a greater existential threat to Amazon than fake reviews , is to divert buyers from Amazon to the seller ’s own independent platform . Amazon restricts merchants from collecting sensitive buyer information such as email addresses, but Chinese sellers have a new method, which is to send postcards to customers asking them to leave reviews on their own websites.

Cross-border sellers need to be careful and never try to be clever by brushing reviews. They should focus on brand building and use formal channels.
