71.9 billion yuan market! Wigs and peripheral products buck the trend and sales surge

According to CCTV Financial News, during the epidemic, while many industries in Japan were operating poorly, the wig industry bucked the trend and became extremely popular.

Wig sales surge, with the market size reaching 1.2 trillion yen

Due to the reduced amount of exercise during the epidemic and the dual pressure of work and life, about 60% of Japanese people have "head anxiety" and they begin to pay attention to their hairstyle.

Local Japanese citizens said that during the epidemic, everyone wore masks, half of the face was covered, so they paid more attention to their hairstyle. Netizens said: "It's quite bald."

As a result, the demand for products and services related to head image, such as high-end wigs and hair growth oils, has skyrocketed , and wig manufacturers have also taken the opportunity to develop peripheral products and make a fortune.

It is reported that the price of wig products ranges from several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan, depending on the complexity of the shape. Compared with ordinary wigs, the price is relatively high, but it is still popular among women.

Hirofumi Matsunaga, head of the marketing planning department of a Japanese wig manufacturer, said that in October last year, the sales of women's wigs increased by 3.6 times compared with the previous year, while that of men increased by 2.7 times . Therefore, it is not only women who love beauty, but men have also begun to pay attention to their heads.

It is reported that a men's custom wig salon located in Ginza is doing a booming business, with sales from October last year to February this year increasing by 30% year-on-year.

During the epidemic, Japan's wig market has developed rapidly. Experts predict that the future market size of hair-related products can reach 1.2 trillion yen , or about 71.9 billion yuan.

80% of wigs come from China. Is this an opportunity for Chinese wig sellers?

China is a major wig manufacturing country. It is reported that 80% of the world's wigs come from Xuchang, China . According to data released by AliExpress recently, Xuchang, Henan Province sells an average of 40,000 wigs to the world every day on its e-commerce platform, with an annual turnover of 1.5 billion yuan.

The surge in sales of wigs in Japan is an opportunity for Chinese sellers to generate huge sales.

At present, the global demand for wigs is considerable, and the target audience is also very wide. Wigs are not only a daily necessity for the African population around the world, but also a popular item in Africa; they are also a traditional accessory for white women in Europe and America, and a fashion item for Asian women.

There are a large number of people with less hair and hair loss in the world. It is reported that hair loss is also one of the sequelae of the new crown. Therefore, the demand for wigs at home and abroad will further increase in the future.

The wig industry faces development opportunities as well as challenges. In recent years, wig smuggling cases have occurred frequently, with huge case values. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, since 2017, a total of 11 criminal smuggling gangs have been suspected of smuggling 1,200 tons of human hair, with a case value of over 1.1 billion yuan, and evading taxes of about 230 million yuan.

Therefore, relevant companies must strengthen the compliance of their operations and avoid illegal and criminal activities.
