Indian retailer Nandu's expands offerings to include fish, seafood

Bangalore, India-based retailer Nandu’s has announced that it will expand its business to include more fish and seafood products.


According to Indian media reports, Nandu’s has recently achieved strong growth in meat sales and is considered to be India’s largest localized and omni-channel meat retail company.


Fish and seafood have been included in the product category across all Nandu’s sales channels , including tilapia, shrimp, crab, tuna and black tiger prawns. Retailer Nandu’s said it will focus on providing freshness and variety to customers.


Vinay Gopinath, COO, Nandu's said , " After in-depth research on consumer preferences and the availability of fish and seafood in the market, we will be offering a wide variety of marine and river fish, shellfish and dried fish to our customers. At Nandu's, we offer whole fish that are cleaned to better suit the needs of our customers, as well as pre - cut and packaged fish and seafood for consumers to take home and enjoy as per their preference . "


He added: Since its establishment in late 2016 , the company has been committed to providing consumers with fresh, healthy and high-quality meat and meat products. However , many customers still complain that it is difficult to buy healthy and clean meat products, so Nandu's decided to expand its business scope and increase the sales of fish and seafood products.


“With this foray into this category, Nandu’s vision is to become India’s favourite meat and fish brand across both online and offline retail channels . We are excited about the growth of this category going forward and expect it to contribute significantly to the overall revenue.


Narendra Pasuparthy, founder and CEO, Nandu's, said: " Nandu's has achieved growth of about 200% in FY 2020-21. The company plans to attract private investments to expand into key markets such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Kerala in the coming years.


Nandu’s currently has more than 50 stores in Bangalore and also operates its own e-commerce website, app , etc. Narendra Pasuparthy said the company hopes to open 600 stores in India by 2025 .
