With the flourishing of e-commerce platforms in North America, sellers no longer have a single choice!

According to a survey by foreign media , offline physical retail is shifting to online sales , but only 6% of retailers said they would consider selling on the Amazon platform.

Although Chinese sellers account for a high proportion on Amazon, its main consumers are North Americans. North Americans, who were accustomed to shopping in physical stores before the epidemic, are happy to see this and say it is a great thing for their favorite store brands to have online channels.

Other consumers said that if physical retail moves online, they would choose these channels over Amazon.

Commerce Signals tracks North American consumer spending through credit and debit card data , collecting information from more than 40 million U.S. households . It anonymizes the data and sells the information and analytics to retailers, marketers and others interested in consumer spending trends.

The company 's analysis of data between March 15, 2020 and February 13, 2021 found that of the 10 states with the smallest percentage declines in physical store retail sales , six were among the top 10 states with the highest percentage increases in e-commerce .

Mangiapane believes that the holiday shopping boom driven by Amazon's decision to move Prince Day from its traditional summer timeframe to Oct. 13-14 in 2020 provides an opportunity for local retailers to transition to online channels.

Since March 2020 , online purchases in North America have increased 52.9%, while in-store sales have decreased 0.6% .

Total consumer retail spending increased 21% in October, 17.9% in November and 16% in December, according to Commerce Signals, while online business grew 55.9%, 53.2% and 47%, respectively .

Starting with Prime Day and continuing through Black Friday, year-over-year growth increased 34% across all channels, but online grew 83% . Starting with Black Friday, online year-over-year growth increased 53%.

Commerce Signals data tracks spending at more than 1,300 merchants, including major retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, Target and The Home Depot , across 26 categories such as discount stores , hardware stores , clothing stores and more.

The epidemic has led to the flourishing of online channels, giving consumers more choices, and Amazon is no longer their first choice for shopping. However, Amazon still dominates the US online market .

78 % of respondents said they are still selling on Amazon , up from 55% last year . For 47 % of retailers with Amazon business, Amazon accounts for more than half of their total brand e-commerce sales, up from 42% last year .

In the last year, 61% of retail brands on Amazon have seen a 30% increase in overall revenue .

At present, Amazon still has advantages in acquiring new customers, increasing sales, gaining market share, gaining customer insights and analysis, and generating brand awareness .

But the person in charge of the survey said that in the coming period, Amazon's dominant position will be shaky under the attack of a variety of online sellers.
