Elliptical machine demand increased by 250%! Many sports products are selling well in Russia

As the epidemic rebounds, Russia's demand for running products and other sporting goods continues to rise. Russian e-commerce platform Wildberries said that the platform's overall sales of sporting goods in February increased by 46% compared with the beginning of this year .

 

Due to the cold weather, most Russians are exercising at home . Wildberries has noticed a 120% increase in demand for exercise bikes and a 250% increase in demand for elliptical machines. Sales of dumbbells, yoga mats, skipping ropes, yoga balls, etc. have also increased.

 

Another e-commerce company, Ozon , also said that sales of sports goods on the platform increased nearly threefold in the first 10 months of 2020. Indoor sports goods such as skipping ropes, treadmills, steppers and yoga mats are the most popular.

 

However, indoor sports do not seem to satisfy all Russians. Recently, the temperature in Moscow, the capital of Russia, has been hovering between single digits and minus ten digits, but even so, it still cannot stop some Russians from being enthusiastic about sports. They wear shorts and sneakers and go out to "run wildly" on the snow , which is really worthy of being called a "fighting nation."

According to Kommersant, more and more Russians like to exercise outdoors , which indirectly boosted the sales of sports shoes and sportswear. Wildberries data showed that the platform's sales of sports shoes increased by 74% in February, sales of T-shirts increased by 68%, and sales of sports shorts increased by 46%.

 

Puma also said that its sports shoe sales so far this year have increased by nearly 30% compared with the same period in 2020.

Last year, Puma's online sales also grew 63%. Puma revealed plans to launch its own app later this year to cater to online sales.

 

At the same time, the epidemic has also brought business opportunities for online fitness courses. Even after the epidemic home isolation measures were lifted, Russians' interest in online courses continued. Yuri Strofelov, founder of an online fitness platform s10.run, said that the platform's business has grown significantly during the epidemic.
