Sellers using misleading store labels will be punished Recently, Shopee discovered that some sellers imitated the official behavior of the platform and added self-made store labels to product pictures, which seriously misled buyers. Subsequently, Shopee stated that from March 8, 2021, the platform will prohibit sellers on all sites from using misleading store labels in product pictures. Violating products will be deleted, and the violating stores will be punished with 1 or 2 points depending on the severity of the circumstances . If the store commits the same violation again, additional penalties will be imposed depending on the circumstances. Serious violators may have their stores frozen. Sellers must complete rectification of violating products in a timely manner in accordance with the rules. The act of using misleading store labels in product images means that the seller, without authorization and permission, artificially adds labels that should be automatically generated by Shopee based on the seller type and performance to the product images through image processing software. This will be judged as using misleading store labels in product images, including but not limited to the following situations: local seller labels , preferred seller badges . Shopee and Lazada team up to step up efforts to combat counterfeit goods According to foreign media reports , Southeast Asian e-commerce platforms Shopee , Lazada , as well as global and local brand owners and business associations recently signed a memorandum that will establish a code of conduct in the online market. The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines ( IPOPHIL) said the memorandum of understanding (MOU) will intensify efforts to combat the online sale of counterfeit goods . IPOPHIL Director General Rovere Barba said this is particularly important for counterfeiting and piracy complaints, with data showing that 121 reports and complaints were recorded in 2020, 90% of which were online sales. Under the agreement, Lazada and Shopee pledged to handle notifications in a "time-efficient and comprehensive manner" and ensure that their procedures for validating complaints do not result in unreasonable or undue delays in withdrawing offers. At the same time, brand owners commit to use the notice and takedown systems established by online platforms and take commercially reasonable steps to effectively combat counterfeiting at the source. This e-commerce memorandum of understanding may become an industry-wide online code of conduct and an important reflection of the government and cross-border e-commerce industry stakeholders’ firm commitment to promoting and protecting intellectual property rights in the online field. policy Shopee Platform Lazada Platform |
