European ports hold 48-hour strike, China's foreign minister calls on the US to lift tariffs and sanctions

Strike at major European ports may lead to berthing delays and port congestion


According to foreign media reports, the Panhellenic Federation of Rescue Crews has decided to launch a 48-hour strike at the Port of Piraeus, Greece from February 23 to February 24, 2021.


As a result, the port will not be able to provide tugboat services during the strike period, which will affect the ability of ships to maneuver within the port. Vessels arriving at the Port of Piraeus from February 22 onwards are expected to face berthing delays, and severe congestion is expected at the terminal after the strike ends.


China's foreign minister calls on US to remove tariffs, sanctions


Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a forum in Beijing that China and the United States should reopen dialogue platforms established under former President Donald Trump and roll back some of the previous administration's policies.


He reiterated the need to remove "unreasonable tariffs" and abandon "irrational suppression" of China's technological progress, and pointed to restrictions on Chinese media and students as another issue of concern.


Vietnam's total trade in goods exceeds US$500 billion in 2020


In 2020, Vietnam's total trade in goods was worth US$545.36 billion, up 5.4% from the same period last year. Compared with the same period last year, the total value of commodity exports reached US$282.65 billion, up 7%, while the total value of commodity imports reached US$262.7 billion, up 3.7%.


In 2020, Vietnam's total merchandise trade with its Asian trading partners was worth $352.97 billion, up 4.2% year-on-year. The second largest was Vietnam's merchandise trade with the United States, with exports of $112.02 billion, up 16.2% year-on-year.
