South Korea's express parcel volume exceeds 3 billion in 2020

South Korea is the fifth largest e-commerce market in the world, but it has never been taken seriously by sellers! Although South Korea's land and population are small, it has a large e-commerce market, and this market is still in the development stage, with an amazing annual growth rate!

According to data from the Korea National Statistical Office, online shopping transactions in South Korea last year amounted to 161.1 trillion won, up 19.1% from the previous year and the highest level since relevant data were collected in 2001.

More than 3 billion express parcels in 2020

According to the " Annual and Monthly Delivery Volume " data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism , the total delivery volume of 18 express delivery companies last year was 377,818,900 , an increase of 21% compared to 2019 .

Since the number of express parcels exceeded 2 billion in 2016 , the number of parcels in South Korea has been growing rapidly at a rate of about 10% per year , and last year the increase was about twice as much , with the number of parcels exceeding 3 billion.

The rapid growth in online orders is largely attributed to the trend of non-face-to-face shopping brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic , and as the current epidemic in South Korea lasts longer, demand for package delivery is expected to continue to increase.

Delivery volume will increase significantly during the Lunar New Year holiday

Due to the consensus of maintaining social distance , more and more people are trying to express their feelings with gifts . It is expected that the volume of express delivery in South Korea will increase significantly around the Lunar New Year holiday . This also means that the business burden of express delivery practitioners will be greater !

Last year, with the deaths of courier drivers across the country , excessive work pressure became a social problem.

Conflicts between couriers and courier companies occur from time to time and have not been completely resolved. Although several major logistics companies in South Korea have stated that they will improve the working environment of couriers and recruit specialized sorting personnel, the specific implementation process is relatively slow.

The surge in delivery volume during the New Year holiday will once again increase the pressure on couriers, and may therefore have a certain impact on the normal delivery of express delivery during the New Year holiday. Sellers are advised to pay attention in advance.
