Cross-border parcels to Russia increased by 17%, Cainiao Network deepened its presence in Russian logistics

According to foreign media reports on the 1st, the number of cross-border parcels sent by Cainiao Network from China, Turkey and Europe to Russia in 2020 increased by more than 17% year-on-year compared with 2019 , and the total weight of the parcels exceeded 10.7 million kilograms. Since the beginning of 2020, Russian consumers have increased their online shopping. The average weight of Cainiao's single shipment in 2020 was 1.5 times that of 2019.

It is reported that most of the parcels delivered by Cainiao Network to Russia are from AliExpress . During the autumn and winter promotions such as Double 11 last year, Cainiao delivered nearly 10% more orders to Russian buyers from AliExpress than usual. During the Christmas promotion last year, Russian buyers were even more crazy about shopping, and the orders delivered by Cainiao increased by nearly one-third compared to December 2019. Active buyers mainly come from large cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar and Nizhny Novgorod.

In addition to buying "Chinese goods", Russian buyers have also shown an increased interest in goods from Europe and Turkey. Last fall, after Cainiao Network and Russian Post opened a new channel for Turkish sellers, the total number of parcels sent from Europe and Turkey to Russia increased by more than 7 times.

Since its arrival in Russia, Cainiao has been committed to deepening its presence in the Russian logistics market. On October 13 last year, Cainiao announced an investment of over 1 billion rubles in Russia to develop IT solutions and localize its business to optimize its delivery business. In addition, Cainiao has also successively cooperated with Russian Post, Sber Logistic, DPD, 5Post, and Russian Star Airlines to expand its business coverage in Russia.

As of the end of last year, the total number of Cainiao's partner pickup points in Russia was close to 19,000 . In addition, Cainiao announced in October last year that it would establish a self-service express locker network in Russia, making Russia the first foreign country where Cainiao has established express locker terminals.

Vyacheslav Savin, the Russian representative of Cainiao Network, said that their goal is to establish Cainiao's logistics network in Russia based on Cainiao's layout in China. They plan to build thousands of Cainiao express locker terminals in Russia by the end of April this year.

Cainiao's logistics layout in Russia just caters to the preferences of Russian consumers. According to the 2020 Russian e-commerce logistics market report recently released by Data Insight, pickup points and express lockers have become the two most popular delivery methods in Russia , accounting for 39% and 34% respectively.

Savin said that in 2021 Cainiao will focus on increasing the number of flights to Russia, optimizing the Cainiao route network, developing a network of pickup points and express lockers, and reducing delivery time to various regions of Russia.
