Sales reach 2 billion pounds, British hardware e-commerce Screwfix is growing rapidly

It is reported that British hardware e-commerce Screwfix achieved sales of 2 billion pounds for the first time in 2020, while its sales reached 1 billion pounds five years ago.

Founded in 1979, Screwfix is a retailer specializing in DIY home improvement tools, accessories and hardware products . It is a retailer under Kingfisher, the largest building materials and home furnishing group in Europe . It also owns many well-known retail brands, including B&Q, Castorama, Brico Depot, etc., covering the UK, France, Poland, China, Russia and other regions.

It is reported that Screwfix adopts an "online + offline" dual-channel business model. It opened its first store 15 years ago and also conducts business online, providing and delivering products in the UK, Ireland and Europe. So far, it operates 725 offline stores and its own website.

Although the outbreak has had a huge impact on offline retail, it has been a milestone year for Screwfix. On the one hand, people have started to upgrade their homes during home quarantine, which has led to an increase in demand for hardware products; on the other hand, Screwfix can continue to operate as an "essentials" store in the UK . This has enabled Screwfix to open 30 new stores and continue to expand its sales range.

During this period, Screwfix , like many retailers, has implemented an "order online, pick up curbside or in-store" policy during the epidemic . After consumers shop through the Screwfix.com website or the Screwfix app, click the "Click&Collect" option and the required goods will be delivered to the selected store within 24-48 hours.

Screwfix said it was opening an average of one new store a week and doubling annual sales from £1bn to £2bn. The growth has also led to a huge recruitment drive, bringing the number of new jobs created in the past five years to 4,000, including more than 1,000 new employees under the age of 24.

Meanwhile, the Screwfix Foundation raised £2 million this financial year, supporting over 400 charities and not-for-profit organisations to repair, maintain and improve homes in need across the UK.

In addition, Screwfix 's parent company Kingfisher released a financial report stating that as of January 9, its total sales soared by 16.9%. Among them, sales in the UK and Ireland market increased by 24% in November and 20.8% in December; compared with the same period last year, online sales increased by more than 150%.
