TIR , or the Customs Convention on the International Carriage of Goods under TIR, is one of the most successful international transport conventions and the only universal customs transit system to date.

About TIR

• With 77 Contracting Parties, including the European Union, TIR is the international customs transit system with the widest geographical coverage, extending to North Africa and the Near and Middle East. More than 33,000 operators are authorised to use the TIR system, carrying out around 1.5 million TIR transports per year.
• Like other customs transit procedures, the TIR procedure allows goods to cross international borders under customs control without paying the duties and taxes normally payable upon import (or export).
