Is Amazon creating problems for sellers again?
Amazon sets threshold for order processing, sellers complain
Recently, Amazon released the following announcement:
Amazon said in the announcement that starting from February 7, it will automatically set a minimum threshold for sellers in the order processing capacity function of Seller Central. This threshold is a conservative estimate based on the average daily order volume of sellers in the past 30 days to show the capacity of sellers to process orders.
Amazon will recalculate the minimum order processing capacity every week based on the seller's historical data. Once the seller's order processing capacity is lower than the minimum value, Amazon will automatically adjust the threshold to make it more in line with the seller's actual processing level. At the same time, sellers can also set higher order processing capacity limits at any time in the "Order Processing Settings".
The announcement pointed out that the order processing capacity function allows sellers to set the upper limit of the number of orders that can be processed daily. When the order volume reaches this set upper limit, customers browsing the seller's products will see a one-day delayed delivery commitment, and the seller will also get an extra day of order processing time. This function not only provides customers with more accurate delivery date information, but also helps sellers effectively avoid an increase in delayed shipment rates when they receive orders that exceed their processing capacity.
Judging from the content of the announcement, this should have been a good thing for sellers, but the sellers' reactions were unexpected.
A seller joked: "I predict that it won't be long before Amazon will make another announcement, which will roughly say: 'Starting October 15, we will charge fees for low picking order processing capabilities. To provide you with convenience, the weekly minimum order processing capacity will be automatically calculated based on your historical data. If a SKU is below the minimum order processing capacity, this fee will be charged for each order above the threshold. The fee ranges from US$1 to US$3 per order, and the specific amount will depend on how much we need you to provide.'"
One seller denounced Amazon's move as extremely stupid and strongly demanded that Amazon stop making things difficult for sellers and allow them to run their businesses with peace of mind. He said excitedly: "This is simply too ridiculous and must be stopped immediately! If you insist on making changes, why set higher limits? This is illogical and is purely restricting sales, which is completely contrary to business common sense. What's even more outrageous is that the announcement was made suddenly on the day of implementation without any notice. This operation is too outrageous!"
Some seasonal sellers are even more blunt, saying that Amazon's move is a joke. He said that for sellers like himself who rely on high sales peaks before the holiday shipping deadline, Amazon's actions will mess up and kill sales. Not only that, Amazon's actions also lead to job losses because sellers no longer need to hire so many temporary helpers during the holidays. After all, Amazon determines how many orders they can get.
In addition, some sellers also sarcastically mocked that this was a crooked idea that Amazon's so-called technical talents came up with in order to keep their jobs. These people only wanted to prove their abilities and didn't care whether the idea was good or bad.
Amazon's warehouse explosion problem continues, sellers face difficulties at the beginning of the year
In addition to dissatisfaction with the backend changes, Amazon's warehouse explosion problem also made sellers anxious. In the first half of 2024, Amazon's warehouse explosion problem began to break out, and it has continued to affect sellers for nearly a year since then. However, unexpectedly, in 2025, sellers are still troubled by this problem.
Recently, a seller said that many of his shipments are facing a thorny problem: after the goods arrive at the port, it still takes more than half a month to arrange for the warehouse to deliver them. "In 2023, this situation is almost impossible. The current delivery speed has greatly extended the entire stocking cycle and is completely uncontrollable, because there is no way to predict when the goods will be delivered to the warehouse."
At present, the dilemma faced by sellers is not only the long delivery time, but also the uncertainty of the time to put the goods on the shelves after delivery. Sellers are very helpless about this, lamenting that even if the goods are delivered to the warehouse, if they are not put on the shelves for a long time, they can only wait.
One seller revealed that his shipment had been signed for as early as January 21, but half a month had passed and it was still in the reserved status, and Amazon had not put any shipment on the shelves for him. Another seller had to wait even longer. He said that his shipment had been delivered to the warehouse as early as January 7, but until now, the status of the shipment still showed that it had been delivered. "Opening a case (asking) is just to make you wait!"
According to sellers’ feedback, the current problems of slow delivery and difficulty in listing are mainly concentrated in warehouses TEB9, PBI3, MIT2, LGB8, and RMN3. Taking LGB8 as an example, some sellers’ shipments were shown as delivered on January 9, but Amazon has not registered them until now.
Faced with such poor delivery and listing speeds, sellers have lamented: "2025 is really difficult, and I don't know what to do next." In order to get out of this predicament, some sellers have begun to consider sending the goods to overseas warehouses first, and then handling subsequent sales matters through drop shipping.
“Is there no one working in the Amazon warehouse? They don’t have to celebrate the Spring Festival.” Sellers don’t understand why they have to face the problem of warehouse overflow at the beginning of the year.
So, what causes the extremely low efficiency of Amazon's delivery and listing? According to sellers' speculation, there are two main reasons:
First, January is a special period after the holiday season. Consumers' returns and merchants' urgent need to replenish stocks hit at the same time, causing warehouses to handle explosive growth in cargo volume. Under such a huge workload, warehouses are very likely to fall into a warehouse overflow dilemma.
Second, in order to deal with the tariff issue, sellers stocked up a lot of goods before the New Year and booked space to ship the goods to the United States at all costs. Now these goods arrive at the warehouse almost at the same time, and a large amount of goods are pouring in, which overwhelms the warehouse and makes it difficult to avoid warehouse overflow.
At present, it is difficult to judge whether the current warehouse explosion problem can be solved in the short term or needs to be dealt with in the long term. But it is undeniable that the operation of sellers is becoming more and more difficult, especially for small sellers.
A seller said: "Amazon's US region is still friendly to small sellers in 2023, but starting from the second half of 2024, business has become extremely difficult and inventory turnover has dropped significantly." In addition, some sellers also mentioned that if they only release 100 to 200 stocks of new products now, subsequent replenishment will be much more difficult than in previous years.
