Australia steps up epidemic control measures, eBay provides business support to sellers

Due to the impact of the epidemic, some parts of Australia have stepped up epidemic control measures.

It is reported that the number of newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sydney, Australia has reached a new high in this round of epidemic. Sydney has adopted stricter blockade measures, and state officials have called it a "national emergency."

A few days ago, the Victorian government of Australia also announced that in order to ensure the safety of local people, the control measures in Victoria will be extended for at least another 7 days. As of July 27, people in Victoria are not allowed to leave their homes for non-essential reasons, and people in high-risk areas are not allowed to enter Victoria without permission.

The tightening of epidemic control measures in some parts of Australia may have an impact on sellers on the e-commerce platform. In order to ensure the normal operation of sellers on the eBay platform, eBay China's official website announced yesterday that it will provide protection measures for some sellers located in Australia or delivering goods to the country.

The protections apply to sellers located in or shipping to the following areas between the relevant dates: South Australia between July 21 and July 27; Victoria between July 16 and July 27; and Greater Sydney between June 25 and August 1.

eBay has provided three protection measures this time:

For all transactions conducted on the above dates, eBay will automatically remove any related negative reviews received by the seller due to reasons such as "delayed delivery" or "seller canceled the transaction";

For all transactions conducted on the above dates, eBay will automatically remove any related negative reviews received by sellers due to "items not received". However, to enjoy this protection, the seller must upload the relevant tracking information voucher in time before the expected delivery date.

In addition, eBay will extend the estimated delivery date for items in the affected areas on the site to adjust buyer expectations and provide sellers with more time to complete orders.

Risks and opportunities coexist. This round of epidemic in Australia will have a certain impact on the delivery services of e-commerce platforms, and the tightening of control measures during the epidemic will also make Australians more dependent on online shopping. Coupled with the protection measures given to sellers by the eBay platform, e-commerce business in Australia may continue to develop steadily.
