American high school students turned into "sellers" and started the "gold rush" through TikTok Shop

Last month, TikTok released the in-app shopping feature "Shop" in the United States. Two weeks after its launch, the new feature has created a huge wave in the field of social media advertising in the United States, making this app a new commission-based marketing channel.

With TikTok Shop, almost all users can advertise products through TikTok and get commissions from sales. Some high school students abroad quickly seized this opportunity and opened their own stores on TikTok. The product videos posted by these teenagers have now received millions of views.

According to foreign media reports, the TikTok accounts of these teenage sellers have posted dozens of product promotion videos in the past two weeks. Some teenage "sellers" do not seem to have used the products they are promoting, because some videos only have some text on a simple background. But there are also many sellers who actually use the products they promote.

One video of a teenage seller lip- syncing to Radiohead's "Creep" while wearing a Radiohead T-shirt has been viewed 2.8 million times. The video captioned, "This shirt is so cute and only cost me like $1.27."

Another teenage seller with 33,000 followers ran two ads in his store for a pair of $4 women’s leggings, one of which was viewed more than 1.1 million times.

The teen also made a video advertising a $10 studded belt with the caption: "Imagine your parents cheering you on with this belt," which has more than 1.2 million views.

These findings are the latest example of how U.S. users are quickly taking advantage of TikTok Shop's new feature to make money. They also demonstrate the rapid impact of TikTok Shop's new system, which encourages creators to quickly create internet ads and has an impact on the internet.

In some ways, TikTok Shop has become an entirely new concept — not fast fashion, but fast advertising. It’s an unfettered version of affiliate marketing, a form of influencer branding that became popular with bloggers in the early to mid-2000s.

It is reported that TikTok Shop videos will be provided to TikTok users through the same algorithm as "For You", which means that these videos will be pushed to more viewers almost at the same time as they are released.
