According to The NPD Group, for American consumers, eating sweets is a year -round pastime , but the number of people eating dessert increases significantly between Halloween and Valentine's Day .

 

From mini chocolate bars in Halloween trick or treat bags to festive winter cookies served with ice cream to heart-shaped Valentine 's Day candies, there's no doubt that 'tis the season for sweet treats in America .

 

While candy is at the heart of seasonal sweets, cookies and ice cream are also popular with consumers . According to the most recent NPD survey of American eating habits , chocolate candy , candy bars , cookies and ice cream are the most popular dessert categories throughout the year .

 

For American consumers, these sweets have a good position in their seasonal traditional consumption list . For example , chocolate is one of the most popular candy categories among consumers , especially during Halloween , when chocolate candy accounts for one-third of total candy consumption. Moreover , data shows that more than half of chocolate candy is eaten by consumers during Halloween .

 

While cookies and ice cream are the most popular sweets for consumers during the winter holidays , it is undeniable that chocolate candy is the most popular sweet on Valentine's Day . Chocolate is the big winner on Valentine's Day, especially among adults, where it accounts for two-thirds of all candy consumption .

 

Meanwhile, during Valentine's Day, various exquisite gift box packaging once again promoted people's consumption of chocolate candies . According to NPD's consumer survey, nearly a quarter of chocolate candies were purchased by consumers in the form of gift boxes during Valentine's Day .

 

Darren Seifer, an analyst at NPD Food and Beverage Industry , said that many American consumers regard sweets as part of their holiday traditions , and it would not be a perfect holiday if they could not eat candy or specific desserts . And those brand suppliers who provide consumers with sweets are also constantly benefiting from consumers' sweet consumption.
