  • In 1930, George Jenkins left his comfortable and stable job and opened the first Publix store in Florida. In the first few years after its establishment, the company's average annual sales were $100,000, and by 1934, it had slowly grown to $120,000.
  • In 1940, Publix opened its first supermarket in Florida.
  • In 1945, the company grew larger by acquiring 19 American department stores.
  • In 1951, with the advent of peace, Publix also began its reconstruction plan. The 125,000 square foot Publix headquarters building rose from the ground in Lakeland. The total sales of the 24 chain stores exceeded $18 billion. By 1955, sales reached $49 billion. In 1962, the number of chain stores increased to 85, and in 1969, it increased to 150.
  • In 1973, Publix established a bread production plant and product wholesale center in Lakeland.
  • By 1978, Publix's annual sales had increased to nearly $2 billion, with profits exceeding $32 million.
  • In 1982, the company began using an ATM network system. In the mid-1980s, Publix entered the drug sales industry and opened dozens of wholesale centers and processing plants across the country. By the end of the 1980s, Publix had 64,000 employees and 367 stores.
  • In 1991, stores were opened in Savannah, Georgia and Atlanta, and in 1993, a new store was opened in California, and in 1996, a new store was opened in Alabama.
  • In 1998, the company was awarded the "Ed Press Star" award.
