Recently, Pinduoduo's cross-border e-commerce platform Temu introduced a new regulation called "Customer Service Outsourcing Agreement" to sellers . The agreement mentioned a service fee rate of 0.5%, which was interpreted by the outside world as a signal that the platform will start to charge commissions.
Under this new agreement, Party A (TEMU) has the right to charge a service fee of 0.5% of the actual amount paid by the user when placing an order on the platform . If an order is refunded, no additional service fee will be charged during the refund, but the service fee already collected will not be refunded.
At the same time, Party B hereby unconditionally and irrevocably agrees and authorizes the platform to deduct the corresponding handling fees directly from the sales revenue.
For this clause, any seller who opens a store in Temu must sign it immediately. There is only one confirmation option: read and agree to accept. Otherwise, the quality and effect of the store's services will not be guaranteed, and the store 's operation will not be sustainable.
A seller on the Temu platform revealed that the newly imposed service fee has a great impact on products with lower profit margins, especially for individual sellers. For example, since the platform currently adopts a bidding model with transparent prices and low profit levels, the profit margin of some of her products is only one or two yuan (about 0.14-0.27 US dollars) per order. In this case, it will be difficult to maintain the business because the profit margin will be further reduced.
However, according to the latest official response from Pinduoduo, this news is purely a misunderstanding. The "Customer Service Outsourcing Service Agreement" of Duoduo Cross-border has clearly stipulated that "this agreement is intended to further clarify the rights and obligations of both parties, and your settlement will not be affected by signing this agreement", that is, it will continue to follow the original "0 yuan entry, 0 commission" rules , which is no different from before.
In May this year , the "Warehouse Service Bill" function that appeared in the Temu merchant backend also attracted the attention of sellers. At that time, the platform representative repeatedly emphasized and explained that this function was intended to properly handle the " logistics fee payment " rather than a signal that the platform would charge storage fees.
It can be seen that in the early stages of development, every move of the platform in terms of charging will cause concerns among sellers. Temu commission |
