Blocked again! TikTok faces crisis in Pakistan again

I wonder if you still remember the controversy that TikTok caused in Pakistan last October. On October 9, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority banned TikTok due to complaints from all walks of life about immoral/indecent content on the platform. On October 19, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority announced the resumption of TikTok's operations.

And now, about five months later, TikTok has been blocked again. On March 11, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority issued a statement on Twitter↓

The statement reads: In respect of the order of the Peshawar High Court, the PTA has issued instructions to service providers to immediately block access to the TikTok app. During a case hearing today, the PHC had ordered the blocking of the app .

Why was TikTok banned this time? According to Al Jazeera , Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan of the Peshawar High Court accused TikTok of hosting " content that is unacceptable to Pakistani society ." The Financial Times reported that Qaiser Rashid Khan believed that the platform was suspected of " peddling vulgarity ."

TikTok said in a statement to The Verge: TikTok was built on creative expression and has strong safeguards in place to prevent inappropriate content from appearing on the platform.

TikTok added that it has grown its local language review team in Pakistan and has a mechanism to report and remove content that violates its community guidelines .

There are many obstacles in TikTok 's development . Not only has it been banned in Pakistan, but it has also had troubles in Europe and the United States. Just recently, TikTok faced a series of complaints from consumer protection organizations in Europe, and had to pay $92 million in compensation for 21 class-action lawsuits against TikTok in the United States.

However, TikTok 's glorious achievements are also everywhere. Just in the past February, TikTok and Douyin once again became the most downloaded non-game applications in the world, and also the highest-grossing applications in the world, with user spending exceeding 110 million US dollars.

Now, many sellers are trying to use TikTok to attract traffic. According to the sellers, the traffic is still considerable. The team will also build a matrix and continue to focus on TikTok.
