Shopee to offer free shipping in Mexico


According to Reuters, Shopee recently launched an application in Mexico and plans to provide online sales services in Mexico.


Shopee will offer free delivery across Mexico and stock electronics , clothing, toys and household goods for consumers , according to a preview of the app on its Mexican website .


In fact, Mexican consumers are quite receptive to Chinese products. According to Chinese customs data, the value of China's exports to Mexico has continued to rise in recent years.


Shopee ’s expansion into Mexico, Latin America’s second-largest economy, could mark a major new growth opportunity for cross-border sales.


However, at present, Shopee’s Mexican website (shopee.com.mx) has not yet opened for applications , and it is unclear whether it has started accepting orders.


Previously, Wish had explored the Mexican market. In July 2019, based on the analysis of Mexican user searches and transaction conversion rate data, Wish found that hot-selling products such as consumer electronics, shoes and clothing, cosmetics, and auto parts have not yet reached saturation in the Mexican market.


Another survey shows that Mexican consumers also have a high demand for fitness and book products.


Shopee's entry into the Mexican market will undoubtedly bring new opportunities to more sellers . Before that, it is also crucial to understand the current situation of the Mexican e-commerce market.


Current Status of Mexican E-commerce Market


Currently, Mexico has a population of about 130 million, of which about 88 million are active Internet users. More than 60% of people choose cross-border shopping, and its e-commerce user penetration rate reaches 47.2%.


According to foreign media reports, as of January 2021, in Mexico, the number of e-commerce companies entering the platform has increased by 9%, and revenue from mobile shopping apps has tripled.


Total revenue for all product categories in Mexican e-commerce was $9.04 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12.6% through 2021 , reaching $12.47 billion by 2023.


During the pandemic, the number of people shopping across borders in Mexico has exploded. According to statistics from the Mexican E-commerce Sales Association, the entry of a large number of companies into the e-commerce industry has led to a 300% increase in Mexico's overall e-commerce .


However, Mexico's logistics and language also cause headaches for some sellers. For sellers, it is crucial to choose a reliable logistics company and also to understand some local customs and habits.


For example, Spanish is the common language in Mexico, 90% of Mexicans are Catholics, and shopping festivals similar to Black Friday in the United States are also very popular in Mexico.
