Americans start shopping, Amazon's Thanksgiving week sales break records

Amazon said Wednesday that it had broken sales records for the five-day period that began on Thanksgiving and ended on Cyber Monday, as this holiday shopping season has so far exceeded expectations for many retailers .

Amazon said this year's holiday shopping week was its "biggest ever," with customers snapping up hundreds of millions of products during the period.

Among them, Apple's AirPods wireless headphones and Amazon 's own-brand products , such as the Echo Dot smart speaker and Fire TV streaming device, are hot-selling items. In addition , Champion's clothing accessories , Nintendo 's Switch game consoles and Hasbro 's mini-games are also popular products on the platform .

Third-party sellers selling on Amazon's platform also generated more than $1 billion in sales during Thanksgiving shopping week , an Amazon spokesperson said.

However, Amazon did not provide specific sales data during the shopping week , which is generally the busiest period for Amazon during the holiday season .

Amazon typically releases its fourth -quarter results in late January or early February , which gives Wall Street a fuller picture of the holiday shopping season.

Consumers spent $9.12 billion online on Black Friday , up 2.3 % from last year, while online sales on Cyber Monday rose 5.8% to $ 11.3 billion, according to Adobe Analytics, which tracked more than 1 trillion visits to retail sites and sales of 100 million items .

In fact, most institutions are not optimistic about the holiday shopping season this year . Many analysts also predict that due to high inflation pressure , consumers will pay more attention to budget allocation this year .

But so far, data from Adobe and other third parties show that consumers have already started buying , lured by retailers' deep discounts .

Consumers are only halfway through their holiday shopping so far , based on historical experience , a survey released Tuesday by the National Retail Federation showed , suggesting consumers may spend more in the coming weeks .

For sellers, the strong performance of this shopping week has swept away the past haze. Many sellers have achieved good results and are more confident about future growth.
