According to Amazon, in the past, it has always proactively notified customers who purchased recalled or safety-risk products on the platform.

 

But now, Amazon will create a dedicated page where consumers and sellers can better understand recent recalls on the platform.

 

Additionally, consumers who purchased the recalled products will receive a "customized email" with details of the product recall and a warning banner on their "Order" page.

 

Amazon has long been criticized for being too slow to remove dangerous products, even those under its own brands.

 

In lawsuits over product risks over the past few years, Amazon has said it acts more like a middleman between buyers and sellers and is therefore not directly responsible for product quality.

 

However, the CPSC believes that as an e-commerce platform, Amazon has reason and necessity to be responsible for the products on its website, even if these products are sold by third-party sellers .



It is understood that on Amazon's newly launched product recall page, consumers can find out what the specific risks of the product are and what remedies are available, including refunds, returns or repairs.

 

At least in theory, this means Amazon will contact every customer who may have purchased the recalled product, and the seller will not be the primary person responsible for communicating with consumers.

 

In fact, in addition to consumers, sellers will also benefit from this feature. From this page, sellers can understand the type and reason of the recalled product, which can effectively avoid thunder for future product selection.

 

In addition, sellers whose products are affected can also receive information immediately and respond promptly to minimize losses.
