Product safety issues have occurred frequently in recent times. Recently, a well-known brand recalled a large number of its products due to safety hazards.
It is understood that Secura recently announced the recall of 6,400 air fryers sold by its independent website and Amazon store because this product was found to have the risk of spontaneous combustion after testing.
According to an announcement released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these air fryers were sold on Secura's website and Amazon for up to $90 between May 2019 and October 2020, but their wire connections had defects that could overheat and pose a risk of fire and burns.
The committee was informed that there have been at least nine cases of air fryers catching fire, burning and emitting smoke, but so far there have been no reports of casualties or property damage.
"We are conducting this recall to ensure the safety of our consumers and prevent further harm by removing this product from shelves, " the company said in a statement on a website set up to handle the recall. " Due to certain manufacturing issues, the affected air fryers may pose a safety risk and this recall is a precautionary measure."
The recall report shows that the recall involves Secura air fryers with model number SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) and date code 1901, and deep fryers with model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) and date codes 1903 and 1904.
The affected air fryers are black with silver trim, with "Secura" printed on the top of each device and the model number and four-digit date code printed on a label on the bottom of each product.
The recall notice also urged consumers who purchased the air fryer to stop using it immediately and contact Secura to exchange it for a $45 Amazon gift card or a free replacement from a list of select Secura products available on the recall website. The company added that shipping costs will be covered by Secura.
This is the latest air fryer recall in the U.S. Earlier this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission also recalled more than 2 million Cosori air fryers because they had the risk of overheating and posing a fire risk. That recall involved several different models of Cosori air fryers sold by Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Walmart and Home Depot.
Last year, Best Buy also recalled 635,000 Insignia air fryers after receiving more than 100 reports of fires in the appliances or ovens. The incidents resulted in at least seven cases of minor property damage and two injuries, including a leg injury to a child. Amazon recall Air fryer |
