Online revenue in the Netherlands grew by more than 68% in March

Foreign media reported that online revenue in the Netherlands increased by 68.3% in March compared with the same period last year , and sales in online stores increased by 50.5%. According to data from the Netherlands Statistics Bureau (CBS), online revenue of stores that usually sell through the Internet (multi-channel) increased by 91.4%.

According to CBS , total retail sales in March increased 5.9% from March 2020 , and sales volume increased 4.9%.

In March 2021, sales in clothing, shoe and leather goods stores were much higher than in March 2020. But last March, these stores saw an unprecedented drop in sales , and the growth in March 2021 did not make up for the losses in March 2020. Although sales have increased this year, sales in clothing and shoe stores in March 2021 were significantly lower than in March 2019.

Consumer electronics and white goods stores, DIY stores, kitchen and flooring stores, and pharmacies saw significant revenue growth in March 2020, but experienced revenue losses in March 2021.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic last year , Internet sales in the Netherlands have increased dramatically, and its online sales have increased sharply. Online sales in the second quarter of 2020 increased by 55% year-on-year compared with 2019, and in the third quarter increased by 38% year-on-year. The fourth quarter saw the strongest growth, with online revenue increasing by 55.6% year-on-year.

At present, the epidemic is gradually under control, and retail in the Netherlands has gradually begun to recover, and physical stores have started to operate one after another. However, the growth of physical business has not limited the growth of online business. Due to the shift and dependence of Dutch residents on online shopping during the epidemic, this trend of shifting shopping to online may continue for some time.

According to a current research report, Dutch consumers spent a record amount of nearly 2.6 billion euros on foreign online shops within the EU in 2020. This is more than 600 million more than in 2019, an increase of nearly 32%.

Therefore, e-commerce growth in the Netherlands is still very strong. As of March 2021, its online revenue and online sales performance were very good. In 2021, Dutch e-commerce as a whole is still on the rise.
