Amazon may face charges for spying on employee chats

Some time ago, the news that an employee in Shanghai was fired for using WeChat to chat with friends during work became a hot topic, and netizens had different opinions on the matter.

However, unexpectedly, similar things also happened in the United States, which emphasizes "freedom" and "human rights."

Amazon may face a nationwide accusation because the e-commerce giant has been secretly monitoring employees' private chat groups in the past, according to a report.

According to Amazon deliveryman Derek Jackson, they will set up some "driver groups" on social media platforms, where they will chat about topics such as work conditions.

However, Amazon has deployed a "social media monitoring team" to monitor employees' every move, and has also arranged automated tools for detection, which can even intercept information from some private chat groups.

However, as of press time, Amazon and Derrick Jackson's lawyers have not commented on this matter.

In the relevant evidence submitted, Jackson mentioned a document leaked from within Amazon, which showed that Amazon had an internal social media monitoring list that listed 43 chat groups privately created by Amazon employees.

Jackson said Amazon uses sophisticated tools to monitor chats in these groups, focusing on information about strikes, protests, unionization, salary issues, and whether the media has interviewed employees.

Amazon did not explicitly deny whether the incident was true, but its spokesperson said that such cases are conflicts between employers and employees and should go through arbitration procedures. This is obviously a bit of self-incrimination.

However, the US court stated that Amazon's alleged privacy violations are no longer a conflict between employers and employees, and the incident has risen to the level that needs to be brought to court for resolution.

However, there are different voices in the industry. Circuit Judge Susan Graber said that this case should be subject to arbitration because if there is no employment relationship between Jackson and Amazon, then this issue will not arise and there is a causal relationship between the two.

In fact, the conflict between Amazon and its employees is not new. Amazon has been criticized for having a warehouse worker injury rate that is higher than the industry standard.

But ironically, the latest data released by LinkedIn shows that Amazon has been ranked the best employer in the United States for three consecutive years. It seems that Amazon's "cash" ability is still very useful.
