Amazon files civil lawsuit against five service providers suspected of "fake orders and fake reputation"

Recently, Amazon filed a civil lawsuit in China against five service providers and related individuals suspected of providing "fake orders and fake reputation". The suspected illegal behaviors of the service providers include: inflating product sales for sellers in the form of fake transactions or manipulating Amazon buyer accounts, inducing consumers to submit false positive reviews on Amazon, and maliciously improving the ranking of product search results.

Amazon has invested a lot of resources to win the trust of consumers and sellers. Globally, Amazon receives millions of reviews every week, which are analyzed by Amazon's experienced investigators and industry-leading tools before being published to ensure the authenticity of the reviews. In the Amazon mall, more than 99% of the products browsed by consumers contain only real reviews .

In 2022 , Amazon filed lawsuits against a number of service providers, social network groups and other bad actors suspected of "fake orders and fake reviews" around the world, including lawsuits against service providers such as AppSally, Review , Agentcia Reviews , Fivestar Marketing , Matronex , and Extra Rebate that illegally manipulated reviews in the United States and Europe , as well as lawsuits against more than 10,000 Facebook groups .   By bringing bad actors to justice, we protect sellers and consumers from unfair practices such as false reviews and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of honest sellers.

The civil lawsuit filed in China against the "fake orders and fake reputation" service providers is the latest step in Amazon's continued pursuit of accountability for bad actors and creating a trustworthy shopping experience for consumers around the world. These measures also help create a fair and honest business environment for Amazon sellers and promote the healthy development of the industry.

Holding bad actors accountable through litigation and whistleblowing is an important way we protect consumers and ensure they can shop with confidence on Amazon , said Dharmesh Mehta , global vice president of Amazon’s Seller Services team . “ We will continue to work tirelessly to identify bad actors and hold them accountable to protect consumers, sellers, and Amazon from fraud and other forms of abuse, including fake reviews.

Amazon has long strictly prohibited false and rewarded reviews and other forms of ranking abuse in the mall. Amazon believes that such behavior violates relevant laws and regulations and also damages the legitimate interests of the vast majority of honest sellers.

Creating an environment of fair competition in the industry requires joint governance by relevant institutions around the world. Amazon will continue to strengthen collaboration with regulators, industry partners, and sellers around the world, including China, to hold bad actors accountable, jointly create a fair, healthy, and trustworthy business environment, and help more outstanding Chinese overseas brands expand global market opportunities through Amazon and achieve sustainable development.
