Amazon requires employees to go to the office three days a week, and they say: I don’t want to do this anymore!

It is understood that Amazon employees are very dissatisfied with their boss's requirement to return to the office, and have expressed their emotions through practical actions: continuously sending spam messages to the internal website.

Amazon's technical staff even created a Slack channel and drafted an internal petition opposing the requirement to return to the office at least three days a week starting May 1. The petition urged CEO Andy Jassy and Amazon's leadership team to abandon this requirement in recent days.

The channel has since amassed 16,000 members, and as of Thursday evening, about 5,000 employees had signed the petition.

Amazon employees have said that Amazon has not fulfilled its role as an employer and that the company arbitrarily forced employees to return to the office without providing any data to support it, but there is clear evidence that this is a wrong decision for employees.

According to an employee, Amazon prohibited employees from "liking" or making any comments on the CEO's memo announcing the return to the office. In addition, the company does not allow employees to be interviewed by the media.

Employees posting on the Slack channel said they were caught off guard by the announcement, with many disappointed because they have children to care for, elderly parents to care for and may even need to relocate to shorten their commute.

One employee said he recently leased a car with a 16,000-mile annual mileage limit, but would exceed that limit if he needed to be in the office at least three days a week.

Others have moved to more remote areas after adopting flexible working hours because rent is cheaper and the cost of living is lower, but now they have to worry about commuting.

In addition to conveying their concerns about a forced return to the office, the petition also presents data points and research highlighting the benefits of remote work, such as increased productivity and the ability to attract and retain top talent.

“We know it will be difficult at first, but as the offline office environment gradually improves, employees will gradually adapt,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy wrote in a memo announcing the decision.

In fact, since the epidemic eased, many technology companies have resumed offline work. Since last year, Google and Apple have been asking some employees to return to the office, and Disney also began requiring employees to stay in the office four days a week in January this year.
