According to foreign media reports, Walmart recently removed a pair of boots that were being sold on the platform, as the platform said the product violated the platform's policies.
It is understood that this pair of boots is sold by a third-party seller on the Walmart platform. The characteristic of this pair of boots is that the word "KKK" is printed on each tongue .
Sellers who are familiar with American history may know that these three letters are easily reminiscent of the infamous KKK organization during the American Civil War. The organization is a white supremacist group in American history and a representative organization of American racism. The third-party seller appears to be a company called "Harsuny," and the footwear is listed only as "Men's Tactical Military Hiking Boots Outdoor Trekking Shoes," according to a screenshot of the product listing provided by the Council on American-Islamic Relations .
The committee reportedly raised the issue with Walmart on Saturday.
Walmart confirmed that the product was removed from its platform last weekend. A Walmart spokesperson said: " This product is inconsistent with our values and violates Walmart's prohibited products policy. Like other online shopping platforms, we have our own review process designed to prevent third-party sellers from selling prohibited products on the platform. Despite this, such products still appear on the platform from time to time. "
“We are reviewing how this occurred and will apply the information gathered to further improve our rules and processes to prevent this from happening again.”
A Walmart representative confirmed that the company has been in contact with the third-party seller regarding this item to understand how this happened but could not share further details. As of this week, Walmart still had at least a few other items from Harsuny on its online platform, although most of them have been removed.
This isn’t the first time that Walmart has had its products removed from third-party sellers. According to the Associated Press, the retail giant has removed many T-shirts with “negative” messages in recent years , and also removed a mug sold by a third-party seller that read “ Got Milk?” According to GRUB Street, this is a campaign slogan, but with “milk” substituted for the slur against people with disabilities.
Just this year, a children's toy sold by a third-party seller was also removed from Walmart's shelves after a video of the joke-telling game console went viral online.
It was reported that the "jokes" told by this toy mentioned some things that were "not suitable for children", so the toy was immediately removed from the platform.
For sellers, having their products removed from the platform can cause serious losses. Therefore, doing research in advance, keeping abreast of the platform’s policies, and learning some local culture may help sellers reduce the risk of having their products removed from the platform.
