Recently, on Francisco Marengo Street in Sao Paulo, Brazil , a red-orange Cainiao smart self-service locker appeared in an electronics store, with a user guide scrolling on the touch screen embedded in the locker. For a while, this self-service locker that came from China became a local novelty, attracting many nearby residents to stop and watch.
"I experienced China's self-pickup lockers for the first time yesterday. I can pick up the items I ordered on Facily directly at any time after get off work. I don't need to take a detour to a pick-up point. It is really convenient, as if a science fiction movie has come true." Local resident Santos excitedly told reporters after experiencing the Cainiao self-pickup lockers.
On December 19, Cainiao and Brazilian social e-commerce "unicorn" Facily announced a partnership. In the next two years, Cainiao will work with partners such as Brazil Post to deploy 1,000 sets of self-collection lockers in core cities in Brazil, matching nearby smart self-collection lockers for e-commerce users such as Facily, enriching the "last mile" delivery options.
Cainiao's partner this time, Facily, was founded in January 2018. It is known as the Brazilian version of "Pinduoduo", focusing on the group buying model. It completed a US$135 million D+ round of financing in 2021, becoming Brazil's technology "unicorn".
It is reported that Facily provides logistics services through centralized warehouses + self-pickup points. Merchants ship goods to Facily's transit warehouse, and Facily uniformly delivers them to various self-pickup points, thereby reducing the cost of delivery. Currently, Facily has thousands of self-pickup points in Brazil.
However, most logistics companies cannot cover the whole country. For example, Diego De Zordan, CEO of Facily, said that due to safety issues, express delivery companies cannot cover remote areas such as slums, let alone deliver goods to the door. Therefore, Cainiao's unmanned and automated smart self-pickup cabinets are a useful supplement to our existing self-pickup point network.

Unlike general pick-up points, most of the Cainiao smart pick-up lockers in Brazil can provide 7/24 digital pickup services, which are safe and convenient. After placing an order on Facily, users can choose to pick up the package at a nearby pick-up locker. When the package is in the locker, they will receive a pickup notification from the platform. After entering the pickup code at the pick-up locker, they can pick up the package in seconds. It is understood that compared with other delivery methods, the efficiency of picking up packages through pick-up lockers in Brazil has been optimized by nearly 40%.

Previously, Cainiao announced its three-year development plan for Brazil for the first time. It is understood that Cainiao will deepen local network operations around local logistics distribution, customs clearance, distribution centers, smart self-collection cabinets, etc., and establish a "national-level" express logistics brand in Brazil covering more than 1,000 cities in 26 states and 1 federal district. At present, Cainiao's express warehouse and distribution network has covered the entire territory of Brazil. After placing a local order, it is delivered in an average of 2-3 days. Core cities such as Sao Paulo can achieve delivery the next day or even the next day. |
