In the past two months, Chinese cross-border merchants represented by Yiwu have prepared more than 10 million peripheral products and sold them to all parts of the world through China's cross-border export e-commerce platform AliExpress to participate in this World Cup. Netizens joked: No matter which country scores the goal in the end, the first to enter the World Cup are Chinese cross-border merchants.
As Yiwu products on AliExpress sold well outside the stadium, people gradually discovered that the "Yiwu Index" once again made a "magic prediction". Even in the first round of group matches, which was full of upsets, Yiwu merchants on AliExpress successfully predicted the results of multiple rounds through the national flag sales ranking, with an accuracy rate of up to 73%. Although the prediction for the top four was not accurate, on the eve of the final, news that "Yiwu Index predicted Argentina's victory" was released.
Zhan Deliang, general manager of Yiwu Sucheng Trade, said, "After Argentina won, our sales of Argentine flags on the AliExpress platform suddenly increased, four times the daily sales last week, and the store visits increased eight times. In fact, after the semi-finals were decided, the Argentine flag gradually became popular, and the daily sales increased by two times."
No wonder after Argentina won the championship, netizens exclaimed: Yiwu is right again! After the final, even the word "Yiwu" became a hot search.
Of course, in addition to being good at predicting champions, Chinese cross-border merchants represented by Yiwu are even better at seizing the economic heat of the World Cup. During this year's World Cup, AliExpress also launched the "World Cup Venue" to build a special "stage" for cross-border merchants to display their products.
Through cross-border e-commerce, these World Cup-related products from China quickly "conquered" the hearts of overseas fans. World Cup toys, small commodities, and flag products on AliExpress continued to be hot-selling. Taking the Middle East market, where the World Cup is held, as an example, the sales of domestic table footballs increased by 120%, the sales of national team flags increased by 300%, and the sales of jerseys and shoes increased by 200%. In Brazil, where there are many fans, the sales of football-related peripheral products increased by 580%.
During this year's World Cup, VR glasses and projectors have led to a new way of watching football. Many fans choose to buy equipment to watch football at home in an "immersive" and "big screen" way. From September to November, the sales of projectors sold by AliExpress in the Middle East increased by 120% year-on-year, and the sales of lazy sofa products increased by 800%, which also reflects the more technologically advanced Chinese "smart" manufacturing.
On the eve of the finals, searches for World Cup-related merchandise in Argentina and France increased by 85% and 92% month-on-month, respectively. Look, at the end of the World Cup, we are back to Chinese cross-border merchants. |
