According to foreign media Internet Retailing, in order to understand the current online shopping status of Europeans, Checkout.com, the world's leading cloud payment solution provider , conducted a questionnaire survey on 10,000 European consumers and 550 top European e-commerce retail executives and provided a new report " The new State of Retail".
The results show that even if the epidemic is alleviated and many Europeans can go in and out of stores freely to shop, three quarters (74%) of European consumers still have no intention of reducing their existing online shopping. In this regard, 75% of e-retailers agree with this view and believe that the future shopping method will be entirely online.
The survey pointed out that the outbreak of the new coronavirus in 2020 led to lockdowns around the world. In order to meet the surging demand from consumers , offline retailers turned their attention to online and invested in new infrastructure construction and logistics, thereby accelerating the retail industry's transformation to online sales.
In this global crisis, many e-commerce leaders have begun to realize the importance of staying agile. 97% of e-commerce retail executives surveyed said that we need to optimize our business model for up to a year and a half to ensure that we can always make changes according to the changing situation and remain profitable.
Currently, many European e-commerce sellers are taking active actions to ensure that they can keep up with the changing retail landscape. A quarter (25%) of companies have started to build new local service centers, and half (50%) of companies have expanded the range of payment methods to cope with the growing cross-border demand since the outbreak of the epidemic .
However, 60% of e-commerce executives surveyed believe that despite the tremendous changes in e-retail, they still do not have the keen insights to promote the development of their companies.
Now that online shopping has become an integral part of European families , more and more consumers are seeking new online payment methods, and the demand for emerging digital payments has also grown significantly .
The report shows that in the next year , 31% of British consumers plan to use the "buy now, pay later" method for shopping ; 80% of European consumers want to use digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal , and even 40% said they plan to use these types of digital wallets regularly.
Moshe Winegarten, senior vice president of Checkout.com, pointed out that even if consumers return to the high street, e-commerce will continue to accelerate , which requires retailers to seize the wave of European e-commerce development in a timely manner, remain agile at all times, adjust business models , implement new payment methods, and comply with new regulatory requirements.
