Many counterfeit goods were seized by US Customs on Mother's Day

Recently, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized a number of counterfeit Mother’s Day gifts at the Port of Cincinnati. The goods included 65 counterfeit wallets from well-known high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Christian Dior, Hermes and Goyard .

CBP experts examined the quality and packaging of these wallets and concluded that these products violated CBP trademark and copyright regulations . Because Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Christian Dior, Hermes and Goyard all have trademarks on their brands and have registered these trademarks with CBP. If these bags are authentic, their total value is as high as $166,045.

At the same time, CBP officers also seized a shipment of two large Hermes tea sets. The tea sets were shipped from the Philippines to a resident of Mission, Texas. CBP import specialists determined the tea sets were counterfeit based on their appearance and packaging . If the tea sets were genuine , they would be worth $4,000 .

As more consumers purchase goods from e-commerce sites or third-party vendors , our officers monitor to prevent consumers from receiving counterfeit or substandard products , said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke , Director of Field Operations for the Chicago Field Office .

In 2021, CBP officers seized 2,060 shipments of counterfeit goods, which, if they were authentic , would have a total value of more than $ 146 million .

CBP is cracking down on counterfeit goods because they have a negative impact on the U.S. economy. Manufacturers and sellers use the money they earn from counterfeit goods to support their criminal activities, such as human trafficking and money laundering. Currently, CBP officials are working hard to prevent these illegal goods from having a negative impact on the U.S. economy.

Counterfeit goods seized by CBP in April included:

A counterfeit Cartier Love bracelet valued at $47,000.

Counterfeit Christian Dior sandals valued at $13,870.

20 fake handbags and wallets valued at $41,875.

190 pairs of fake Oakley sunglasses valued at $ 29,000 .

According to CBP data , handbags, wallets, clothing, footwear, watches, jewelry and electronics are prone to counterfeiting . These designer fakes are often traded on illegal websites and in the underground black market.

CBP advises consumers to pay attention to the quality of the goods they purchase and carefully check whether the goods they purchase have printing errors, cheap packaging, low-quality materials and below-average prices , all of which indicate that the goods they purchased may be counterfeit .

In order to avoid buying counterfeit and shoddy goods, consumers can purchase goods directly from trademark holders or authorized retailers to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
