Royal Mail staff to strike on Black Friday

Royal Mail staff to strike on Black Friday

According to foreign media reports, more than 110,000 Royal Mail employees plan to strike at the end of this month, which may have a serious impact on the Christmas shopping season.

It is reported that the Communications Workers Union (CWU) of the United Kingdom canceled two strikes on November 12 and 14, saying it hoped to take more "appropriate" action.

In a statement late on Tuesday, the union said it would carry out four days of strike action at the end of the month, including Black Friday, the biggest online shopping day of the year.

Royal Mail wants its staff not to strike at the "busiest time of the year". But the union believes that the pay plan given by Royal Mail is "ridiculous" and said it would strike when online shopping and merchants have the most discounts.

Dave Ward, general secretary of the Communications Union, said: "Royal Mail workers are fighting for their lives and our 115,000 members will not compromise on their interests and their livelihoods."

In response to this issue, a Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Despite a loss of £219 million in the first half of this year, Royal Mail has proposed to the union a pay renewal plan with a two-year pay increase of 9%."

He added: "Communications Union is risking their employees' jobs and the future of our company. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this strike action will cause our customers. We are doing everything we can to minimise delays and keep the business functioning as normal."

Industry insiders predict that the impact of this strike may be greater than any previous ones, as e-commerce platforms such as Amazon have partnered with the Royal Mail to ensure that a large number of express deliveries during the holiday season can be delivered normally.

Although the Royal Mail has assured that they will work hard to minimize the impact of the strike, the 48-hour strike is bound to affect logistics throughout the holiday season.

Its impact may even spread to the whole of the UK. It is understood that the striking union members are evenly distributed across the UK, and Royal Mail stations in London, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool are all at risk of strikes.

Although the Communications Union warned of more strike action to come, it gave no specific dates and must give Royal Mail two weeks' notice before taking any action.

The strike will take place on November 24 and 25, with November 25 being Black Friday, the busiest online shopping day of the year, and there will be two more days of strikes on November 30 and December 1 - just two days after Cyber Monday .
