While major e-commerce platforms are working to help global sellers reach consumers in Europe and North America, Etsy recently released a guide to help sellers on its platform reach more Indian consumers.
Etsy said it is increasing its marketing investment to attract more Indian consumers to use the platform for shopping, and has provided corresponding support policies to local Indian sellers.
The first hurdle for sellers is payment. Although Etsy already handles payment issues on behalf of buyers and sellers, sellers in India need to take an extra step, which is to register for the "India Payments" tool.
“Orders placed through India Pay will be eligible for Etsy’s Purchase Protection Program,” Etsy said. Sellers can also set different prices for listings depending on whether the item is shipped locally or overseas .
In addition, sellers need to update logistics details and add the Goods and Services Taxpayer Identification Number ( GSTIN).
For cross-border sellers, the European and American e-commerce markets have long been mature and close to saturation, while India, as an emerging market, is in its initial development stage.
