Recently, Amazon's advertising technology company Perpetua released the " Amazon Benchmark Report for the Second Quarter of 2022" , which studied Amazon 's consumer trends and advertising strategies in the European market in the second quarter.
The report shows that the fastest growing category in Amazon's European market in the second quarter of 2022 is shoes and bags, with sales increasing by 113%. At the same time, the demand for auto parts is also very high, with sales increasing by 89% in the second quarter. Next is pet supplies, with sales increasing by 81%. Accessories also had high sales in the second quarter.
In terms of specific profits, profits from clothing, footwear and jewelry increased by 127%, and profits from shoes and bags increased by 65%.
At the same time, sales of some categories on the Amazon platform have dropped significantly. Among them, sales of musical instruments and DJ accessories have dropped by 86%, sales of baby products have dropped by 45%, sales of e-books have dropped by 31% , sales of kitchen utensils and household appliances have dropped by 48%, and sales of sportswear and outdoor accessories have dropped by 30%.
In Amazon’s European market, ad views and conversion effects vary from country to country.
In the second quarter of this year, Amazon's Spanish site had the highest number of sponsored product ad views, followed by the Italian site. Among them, the number of sponsored product ad views in Spain increased by 61% year-on-year, and in Italy by 44%. As the number of views increased, the conversion rate of products also increased. Sales of sponsored products in Spain increased by 39%, and sales of sponsored products in Italy increased by 43%.
Amazon Germany saw a 24% increase in views of sponsored product ads and a 7% increase in views of sponsored brand ads. Despite this, conversion rates for its products were very high, with sales of advertised products increasing by 33%.
Amazon France’s sponsored brand ads only saw a 14% increase in views , sales of advertised products grew by only 9%.
Overall, for every 8% increase in the average advertising cost of sellers in Amazon's European market, the product conversion rate will increase by 1%. However, increasing advertising costs does not necessarily boost product sales. Amazon France's average advertising expenditure increased by 18% in the second quarter, but the sales of its advertised products fell by 33%.
Perpetua 's research data shows that the demand for advertising on Amazon's European DSP increased significantly in the second quarter. The advertising costs of third-party sellers on DSP increased by 38%, and the advertising costs on mobile apps also increased by 30%. The return on advertising expenditure soared by 114%. Among them, the sales of mobile app advertising products increased by 79%.
From this we can see that if sellers place advertisements strategically, they can significantly increase product sales.
In a rapidly changing market environment, if sellers want to achieve substantial profits, in addition to developing products that meet consumer needs, they also need to use better advertising strategies and conduct accurate and effective advertising marketing .
