The demand for this type of product increased by 14%, bringing new opportunities to Malaysian sellers

Recently, Shopee released a trend data showing that from January 1 to July 25, 2022, the search volume of Malaysian users for keywords such as solar lamps, solar panels, inverter air conditioners, and other more environmentally friendly home products increased by 14% compared with the previous 6 months.

It is reported that Malaysians are increasingly paying attention to environmental protection concepts, and they hope that what they buy is sustainable and beneficial for long-term use. Compared with the second half of 2021, in the first half of 2022, Shopee sellers' demand for reusable bags and biodegradable plates increased by 19%, and the demand for biodegradable items that help protect the environment and personal hygiene products such as natural deodorants, shampoos and shower gels increased by 33%.

To connect users with more eco-friendly sellers, Shopee launched “Shop Green with Shopee” to educate users about sustainable living and habits and inspire others to take environmental actions, while also enabling eco-friendly product sellers to gain higher visibility and brand recognition.

As Malaysian consumers’ demand for sustainable lifestyles grows, a whole new market opportunity will emerge for sellers. Shopee pointed out that the market opportunities in the healthcare, cosmetics and personal care industries are even greater.

Currently, the Shopee platform already has a range of local eco-friendly sellers and product types, covering categories such as cosmetics and beauty, beauty and fashion, and home.

According to the Malaysian Statistics Department, Malaysia's e-commerce revenue exceeded RM1 trillion (equivalent to RMB 1.5 trillion) for the first time in 2021, an increase of nearly 22% over the previous year. As smartphones become increasingly popular as the main shopping device, the number of e-commerce users and online spending in Malaysia continue to increase. The Malaysian Digital Economy Development Corporation stated that Malaysia's e-commerce revenue is expected to reach RM1.65 trillion in 2025.
