Mobile commerce is popular, with 34% of Dutch consumers preferring mobile shopping

The e-commerce industry in various markets is booming, which has also made mobile e-commerce more popular. In a recent foreign media survey, more than one-third of Dutch consumers said that they prefer to use mobile phones when shopping . The survey shows that consumers in the country not only use their smartphones when shopping online , but also search for products through their phones before entering physical stores.

Klarna's latest mobile shopping report shows that mobile commerce is becoming more and more popular. More than 13,000 consumers in 13 countries were surveyed . In the Netherlands, the preference for smartphones as shopping devices increased significantly between the second and fourth quarters of 2021. In the second and fourth quarters , the tendency to shop via smartphones increased from 28% to 34%.

On the other hand, preference for desktops and laptops has declined during the same period, from 60% to 52%. Millennials have become the most active mobile shoppers. At least 48% of them prefer to shop on their smartphones, followed by 43% of Generation Z shoppers.

Related research also found that online shoppers often compare prices of products from competing online stores, and the same is true for physical store shoppers. The survey showed that only 12% of Dutch consumers do not conduct any online research before buying clothes or shoes in a physical store . Electronics accounted for 14% of the searched items and beauty products accounted for 20%.

Retail executives said that the smartphone revolution has greatly changed the way consumers shop online and in physical stores , and mobile phones have become one of the most prominent means of shopping or pre-research. In addition, checking product reviews and pricing information on site also helps them find accurate product-related information.

In addition , according to the report, Dutch consumers have an average of 53 apps on their phones . Compared to other countries, Dutch consumers have the highest usage of shopping apps . Almost 25% of Dutch consumers use 6 to 10 shopping apps per week. However, there are also consumers who only use 1-5 or no shopping apps per week , accounting for 70% .

This trend is not only in the Netherlands, but also in other European countries. Mobile commerce plays an important role in the consumer shopping experience, so the functions and browsing experience of mobile commerce are very important for sellers.
